Home Library Information Service (HLIS) volunteers
This service is administered by North Yorkshire County Council. It is for people of all ages who, because of ill health or disability, find it difficult to visit the library or carry books. It is also available to their carers. A free home delivery service every two weeks is offered or books can be selected for a friend or relative to collect and return them.
Volunteers are asked to commit to about two hours every fortnight on an agreed day, visiting the same people each time to deliver and collect books. Volunteers work in pairs and those using their own cars are paid out of pocket expenses. All volunteers have a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check before they start. Volunteers can also help in other ways by selecting the books ready for delivery (no DBS check is required for this).
If you would like to volunteer, please telephone 01609 533800 (Northallerton Library Headquarters) or pick up a leaflet from the library for more information.
