Volunteer In the Library

Become a Library Volunteer:

To keep the doors open, Bedale Community Library needs volunteers as they do the day to day running of the library.  They welcome, advise and assist library users as well as keeping the stock in order . They are trained and supported by the North Yorkshire Libraries Service and experienced volunteers.

Most volunteers undertake up to three, three hour shifts in the library each month, working in pairs. The rota is compiled each month (in advance) according to each individual's availability and is flexible.

If you would like to find out more, please visit the library and talk to us. Volunteer forms are available there or online.

For more information, go to the "Get Involved" page or email committee@bedalecommunitylibrary.org.uk .

Administration and fund-raising volunteers

Volunteers are also needed to help with other aspects of library administration and fund-raising. Specific roles include:

  • Helping on Bedale car boot sale days (when its BCL's turn, maximum twice a year)
  • Organising fund-raising events and activities, such as coffee mornings or second-hand books sales in the library
  • Delivering leaflets in Bedale and the surrounding villages
  • Helping with larger events
  • Publicity and Social Media

If you are interested please come and visit us in the library or email committee@bedalecommunitylibrary.org.uk for more information.

Home Library Service (HLS) volunteers

This service is administered by North Yorkshire Council. It is for people of all ages who, because of ill health or disability, find it difficult to visit the library or carry books. It is also available to their carers. A free home delivery service every two weeks is offered or books can be selected for a friend or relative to collect and return them.

Volunteers are asked to commit to about two hours every fortnight on an agreed day, visiting the same people each time to deliver and collect books. Volunteers using their own cars are paid out of pocket expenses.  Volunteers can also help in other ways by selecting the books ready for delivery.

If you would like to volunteer, please telephone 01609 533800 (Northallerton Library Headquarters) or pick up a leaflet from the library for more information.
