The Hospital Bedale Exhibition opens on Wednesday 7 November with a talk by local author Margaret Parry about her grandfather's First World War diaries. Margaret's talk begins at 10.30am in the Bedale Room. Come along to listen, view the exhibition, and share memorabilia and photos. Entry is £1, with tea and coffee. All welcome. The exhibition runs until 28 November.

RhymeTime

Rhymetime is starting again on Monday 10 September, in the Bedale Room opposite the Library and will run every week until Monday 10 December (apart from  26 November).   Historical novelist Imogen Robertson will be talking about her work on Thursday, 7 June, 7pm in Bedale Hall. Local actors will present a short dramatised reading, there will be a bar, local cheeses, a raffle, a pianist and a book stall. All in aid of the Library. A new exhibition about Bedale is to be launched at a social event at Bedale Hall on Friday 17 November. Bygone Bedale will show a collection of photographs of the town and its people. The collection has kindly been loaned by Brian Hall, a long standing resident of Bedale. The exhibition will be launched on at the Quiz Night (entry £5) on Friday and will then run until 30 November.

Please vote - we are so close!  A year ago, we had a Volunteer Open Day seeking volunteers to keep a library open in Bedale. We put out 15 chairs. By the end of the day over 100 volunteers had signed up. One year on, we have 50 active volunteers and the library has not been shut for a single day since. Thanks to all those who turned out on a damp Saturday to run the car boot at Bedale Hall on September 9. £400 was raised from carbooters, donations at the gate and the secondhand book stall.

Over 50 people, including our local police officers, came to the coffee morning at Newton-le-Willows Village Hall this morning. There were cakes, books, home grown produce and a raffle and £240 was raised for the Library. Thanks to all those who helped to make it such a success.

A free Introduction to Computing course will be held on 21 June between 9,30 am — 11.30 am in the Conference Room at Bedale Hall. After the success of the launch of the Friends group, we handed over a cheque for £2000 to BCL at the end of March. A few days later, to show Maggie and Nathalie our appreciation, a small group of HLIS volunteers, Friends and library users presented them with gift vouchers, flowers, chocolates and a bottle of wine each. Every Tuesday in May between 10,30am and 12noon, you can drop in to the Library for free IT support. Laura van den Heuvel, our Dutch student volunteer, is there to help. Whether you want to set up an email address, organise your photos on your iPad or learn how to Skype your friends and relatives, you will benefit from Laura's IT experience and expertise. Alternatively, one-to-one IT sessions with Laura can be booked at the Library until 24 June.

Almost forty volunteers are in the process of being trained with the help of Victoria Sauron, Laura Dinning and Ruth Partington of NYCC Library Services. They now know their RFID machines from their Soprano systems.
